Summerfest (2018) is an intriguing indie drama that captures a slice of life during a fleeting summer. It's got this raw, candid vibe, almost like a documentary in parts, which I find really pulls you in. The pacing has a meandering quality, echoing the lazy days of summer where time feels both stretched and fleeting. Themes of nostalgia and fleeting relationships are central, and the film does a nice job of capturing that bittersweet essence. There are no big-name actors, which lends it an authenticity that’s refreshing. The performances feel genuine, almost like you’re eavesdropping on real lives instead of scripted lines. It's not flashy with its effects, but it’s effective in making you feel the weight of transient moments.
