So, 'Superman IV: The Quest for Peace' is a bit of a mixed bag, honestly. Sidney J. Furie's direction gives it a distinctly 80s vibe, with a heavy focus on moral themes around nuclear disarmament. The pacing feels off—there's a lot of setup that doesn’t quite pay off. The practical effects are charmingly dated, especially compared to today’s standards, but you can appreciate the effort to create Luthor's nuclear-powered villain, Nuclear Man. Christopher Reeve reprises his role with a kind of earnestness that shines through the film’s weaker moments. It’s notable for tackling serious subject matter in a superhero flick, which was ambitious for its time, but it’s also loaded with some pretty cheesy moments. Just a curious chapter in the Superman saga, really.
Released July 24, 1987, in theaters.Runtime: 90 minutes, rated PG.Filmed with a budget of about $17 million.Features practical effects and early CGI blend.
