S.W.A.T. is an interesting mix of action and crime, directed by Clark Johnson. It has a gritty vibe that reflects the high stakes of the Los Angeles underbelly. You can feel the tension building as Hondo assembles his team, and the pacing ramps up nicely when they’re tasked with escorting a crime lord. The dynamic between the characters is engaging, especially with the tension of Chris Sanchez balancing her work life with being a single mom. The practical effects in the big sequences, especially the action set pieces, give it an authentic feel. What stands out for me is how it explores themes of loyalty and justice amidst the chaos. The performances are solid, particularly from Samuel L. Jackson, and they bring a raw energy to the film.
