Take Off (2023) captures the tension and monotony of life in the cockpit, with pilots Sean Xavier and Alpha Wolfe portrayed in an almost claustrophobic atmosphere. It's a film that leans into the psychological strain of air travel, exploring themes of patience and the inner workings of flight. The pacing shifts as their frustration builds, and the cinematography does a great job of making the cockpit feel both confined and expansive. Dimarco’s direction, paired with Rush’s script, creates a unique blend of realism and introspection that’s hard to shake off. The performances are raw, really drawing you into their world of waiting, which is distinct from typical high-action aviation flicks.
This film is relatively new, so there’s still an air of mystery around it. Currently, it’s available mainly in digital formats, with a few physical editions floating around, but they aren't in high circulation yet. Collector interest is starting to grow, particularly among those drawn to character-driven narratives in less conventional settings. The scarcity of editions may make it a point of focus for collectors looking to expand their aviation-themed collections.
