Taste of Cherry is a fascinating exploration of existentialism wrapped in a minimalist narrative. You’ve got this middle-aged guy, Mr. Badii, who’s driving around Tehran, looking for someone to help him with his suicidal plan. The film's pacing is slow, almost meditative, allowing the viewer to really soak in the atmosphere of the city and Badii’s internal struggle. The cinematography is stark yet beautiful, with long takes that make the landscapes feel alive. The performances are understated but carry so much weight, especially with Badii's interactions that range from awkward to profound. Kiarostami’s use of non-professional actors gives it a raw, authentic feel—not a typical narrative structure, but it’s that unique approach that makes it distinctive.
