Texas Trail is an interesting piece from 1937, directed by David Selman. It’s got that classic Western feel, where you can almost smell the dust. The premise revolves around Hoppy, as he turns his Bar 20 cowhands into Rough Riders to secure horses for the Spanish-American War. There’s a sense of camaraderie and rugged determination that plays well, even as they face off against the inevitable bad guys trying to thwart them. The pacing feels quite brisk, keeping you engaged, and while it doesn’t stray far from formula, there are some nice practical effects with the horse wrangling. The performances have that old-school charm—especially Hoppy’s. It’s a simple story, but it has its moments that resonate in that unique Western atmosphere.
