The 40 Year Old Virgin is one of those comedies that surprised me with its blend of raunch and heart. Judd Apatow's direction gives it a loose, improvisational feel, which works wonders in scenes that could've easily turned cringey. Steve Carell’s Andy is so endearing, you actually root for his awkwardness. There's a real sense of camaraderie among the male leads, which adds a layer of authenticity to the humor. Plus, the pacing is just right; it never overstays its welcome. You get genuine laughs and some surprisingly touching moments about relationships and growing up, which is a nice contrast to the typical sex comedies of its time. And let’s not forget the ensemble cast that really brought it to life.
Released by Universal Pictures in 2005.Shot on location in Los Angeles, California.Original runtime: 116 minutes.Features a notable cast including Catherine Keener and Paul Rudd.
