The Bach Virus is a tough watch, for sure. It intertwines a choral performance of Bach’s Hohe Messe with unsettling narratives about three men involved in pedophilia. The documentary doesn’t shy away from the complexities and moral ambiguities of its subjects. You get this heavy, oppressive atmosphere that hangs over the whole thing, making it a stark exploration of exploitation and innocence lost. The pacing can feel slow at times, but it's deliberate, forcing you to absorb the weight of the stories being told. The juxtaposition of such a beautiful choral piece against such dark subject matter creates a dissonance that’s hard to shake off. It’s definitely distinctive, pushing boundaries in documentary filmmaking, even if it’s deeply uncomfortable.
