The Bachelor from 1990 is quite the intriguing piece, set in pre-WWI Austria-Hungary. You’ve got this physician caught in a web of choices, torn between two women, which really brings out the tension of that era. The film's atmosphere is thick with the weight of societal expectations, and you can feel the emotional pull in every scene. I found the pacing to be a bit uneven at times, but that just adds to the authenticity of his struggle. The performances are earnest, adding layers to the characters that really draw you in. Practical effects are minimal, but they serve the story well, making it feel grounded in reality. It’s an interesting character study, for sure.
