The Bargain (2020) dives into a rather intriguing premise where time itself is the currency. I found the tone to straddle that fine line between dark and thought-provoking. The atmosphere is laced with an unsettling tension, especially as our young bodyguard grapples with her dual loyalties. The pacing does have its moments of drag, but it allows the weight of choices to sink in, which I appreciated. The performances, particularly from the lead, are solid and really bring a human element to this somewhat surreal narrative. What stands out is the practical effects used to depict time manipulation – they’ve got a raw quality that feels refreshing amidst all the CGI we often see. There’s a real depth in exploring the morality of power and sacrifice here.
