The Barge People, quite an interesting piece from 2018, takes you along the serene canals of the British countryside, which is a nice juxtaposition to the horror that unfolds. It follows two sisters and their partners on what seems like a chill weekend getaway, but things spiral into chaos as they encounter these bizarre flesh-eating fish mutants. The pacing, while a bit uneven at times, builds a nice tension, and you can really feel the isolation of the setting. Practical effects are employed in a way that adds a gritty realism to the horror. Performances feel genuine, capturing the dynamics of friendships and relationships under threat. It’s not your average creature feature, and there's something to be said about its unique aquatic terror.
Interesting blend of horror and isolation.Practical effects stand out in the mutant design.Captures the dynamics of relationships under duress.
