The Big Fall pulls you into a gritty L.A. that's as alluring as the femme fatale at its center. The pacing has this nice slow burn, letting the tension build as private detective Rybeck navigates a world filled with shady deals and betrayals. The atmosphere is thick with a noir sensibility, and even though the director's name is lost to time, the performances really leave an impression. There's something distinctly raw about the way the characters interact, especially the interplay between Rybeck and the mysterious woman. Practical effects and a moody score enhance the sense of danger lurking around every corner. It's definitely one of those films that lingers in your mind long after the credits roll.
