The Blood Shed is one of those films that you stumble upon and can’t help but appreciate its rawness. Set against the backdrop of suburban encroachment in northern New Jersey, it offers a unique blend of horror and dark humor. The pacing is deliberately slow at times, immersing you in the unsettling lives of this inbred cannibal family. You really get a sense of their day-to-day annoyances, which is oddly engaging. Practical effects are, well, nothing short of gritty — really adds to that homemade feel. The performances are also noteworthy; they bring a kind of authenticity that's hard to find in bigger productions. It’s a distinctive take on the genre and certainly has its own character.
