The Boogens is one of those odd 80s creature features that flew under the radar for many. It has a very distinct atmosphere, set in a small mountain town where an underground mine is reawakened. The pacing is a bit slow at times, but it builds tension nicely, creating an eerie feel. One of its standout traits is the practical effects; the creatures are a mix of puppetry and animatronics, which gives them a unique, tactile quality that CGI just can’t replicate. The performances are decent, capturing that era's vibe well. Not groundbreaking, but definitely adds a certain charm to the mix. It’s a curious watch for those interested in the evolution of horror during that period.
