The Boogeyman (2014) is an unsettling dive into psychological horror. You have this character, Lester Billings, who’s grappling with this malevolent force that seems to pick off his family one by one. The atmosphere is thick with dread, and you can really feel the weight of his past as he unravels it with Dr. Harper's help. The pacing can feel a bit uneven at times, but it kind of adds to the sense of chaos in Lester's life. The practical effects are decent and lend a gritty realism to the supernatural elements, making it feel grounded. Performances, especially from the lead, really pull you into his torment. It’s not your usual horror fare, that’s for sure, and that’s what gives it a distinct edge.
Psychological tension builds throughout.Interesting exploration of familial trauma.Practical effects enhance the horror element.
