So, this 2005 remake of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari brings a fresh yet eerie take on the classic 1920 silent film. It's all shot on green screen, which gives it this surreal, almost dream-like quality. They really went for it by replicating some of the original shots, which is kind of neat but also hits you with that uncanny valley effect. The atmosphere is thick with dread as Francis weaves his tale of Dr. Caligari and the somnambulist Cesare. The pacing does lean more towards the contemplative, letting the horror unfold slowly, which can be divisive, but it really sticks to the themes of madness and manipulation. The practical effects stand out too, blending the old with the new. The performances might not hit the same notes as the originals, but they carry their own weight.
Notable for its green screen technique.Interesting homage to the original's visuals. The pacing and tone may divide viewers.
