So, 'The Call-Up' is an interesting blend of comedy and sport, you know? You've got this delicate minor hockey player, and man, he really gets thrown into the deep end with this rough-and-tumble older team. The film captures that chaotic energy and tension of the sport, yet contrasts it with this character's fragility. The pacing feels a bit off at times, but it works in a way that reflects the player’s own struggle. The performances are, well, they have that rawness that fits the theme of pushing limits. The humor is kind of unexpected, too, which gives it a unique flavor. Not a typical sports film for sure, and that's what I appreciate about it.
