The Changeling (1980) has this eerie, haunting vibe that pulls you in. Peter Medak really crafts a slow burn here—lots of atmosphere, and the old mansion feels like a character itself. George C. Scott delivers a compelling performance as John Russell, balancing grief with a growing sense of dread. The practical effects, especially the manifestations of the ghost, are really well done; they feel tangible in a way that a lot of modern CGI misses. There’s this creeping sense of history that permeates every scene, blending personal loss with the supernatural. If you appreciate a film that takes its time to build tension rather than rushing to scares, this one’s got a lot going for it.
