The Cherokee Strip is an interesting little western from 1937 that mixes music and action in a way that’s not often seen. You’ve got this charming singing lawyer, played by Dick Foran, who’s navigating the chaos of the Oklahoma land rush alongside a motley crew of homesteaders. It’s got a certain quirky charm, with its political intrigue and the fast-paced settlement of Big Rock becoming a battleground for corruption. The performances are earnest, especially Foran’s, and there’s a rough-around-the-edges quality that adds to its appeal. The pacing feels a bit off at times, but it captures that wild west atmosphere well enough. Definitely a unique piece of cinema from the era, worth a watch for collectors.
The film has seen limited releases over the years, making original prints somewhat difficult to find. Most collectors tend to hunt for its rare early home media releases, which can command higher prices. Interest seems to be growing as more people discover its unique blend of musical elements within the western genre, making it a notable yet often overlooked title for genre enthusiasts.
