The Chosen Ones is a tough watch, for sure. It dives deep into the gritty reality of juvenile prostitution in Mexico. You’ve got Sofia, a 14-year-old caught in a web of love and exploitation, which is pretty harrowing. The pacing can feel uneven at times, but it really amplifies the tension as Ulises tries to save her by finding a replacement. The atmosphere is heavy, almost suffocating, but that's what makes the film stand out. The performances, especially from the young leads, are raw and impactful. It’s adapted from a Jorge Volpi novel, and you can feel that literary weight in the dialogue. It leaves you with a lot to ponder about love, sacrifice, and the harshness of survival in such a dark world.
