This adaptation of C.S. Lewis's classic is pretty intriguing, really. The mix of practical effects and CGI gives Narnia a tangible feel, especially the character designs like Aslan and the faun, Mr. Tumnus. Andrew Adamson captures a sense of wonder and danger, particularly through the wintry landscapes. The pacing can feel a bit rushed in parts, but the performances by the child actors have a genuine charm that holds it together. Themes of bravery and sacrifice are woven in without feeling preachy, which is a nice touch. It’s got that fairytale vibe, though it dives deeper into darker elements too, thanks to Tilda Swinton’s creepy portrayal of the White Witch.
Released on December 9, 2005 in the US.Filmed in New Zealand and the UK.Won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.Budget of around $180 million, grossed over $745 million.
