The Color of Money is a fascinating follow-up to The Hustler. Scorsese's direction really captures the gritty atmosphere of pool halls, contrasting Eddie's world-weary cynicism with Vincent's brash enthusiasm. Newman delivers a compelling performance, bringing depth to a character who’s both mentor and antagonist. The pacing feels just right – enough tension in the games to keep you on edge, but there's also time for character development. I love how the film plays with themes of mentorship and the battle between the old guard and new talent. The practical effects in the pool scenes are impressive too, adding a raw authenticity that enhances the viewing experience.
Released by Touchstone Pictures in 1986.Shot on location in various U.S. pool halls.Newman won an Oscar for Best Actor for this role.Features a memorable jazz score by Robbie Robertson.
