The Color Purple is a real emotional ride, you know? Spielberg captures the South’s grit and beauty in a way that feels raw. The pacing is deliberate, letting the weight of Celie’s struggles seep in. Who could forget Whoopi Goldberg’s breakout performance? She brings Celie’s pain and resilience to life. The cinematography is lush, almost painterly at times, while the score by Quincy Jones adds layers of depth. It's an odd mix of heartache and hope, and the way it explores sisterhood is pretty striking. Just a lot going on, but it all feels grounded in a harsh reality. Definitely one of those films that sticks with you for the right reasons.
