The Condemned - (Bali 9) is a raw and unsettling documentary that captures the harrowing reality faced by Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan as they await their fate in a grim Indonesian prison. The film has this tense atmosphere, almost claustrophobic, like you're right there with them in the 'death tower.' Mark Davis's access really makes it feel intimate, and you get a sense of their humanity amidst the dire circumstances. The pacing is contemplative; it doesn't rush, allowing you to really absorb their stories and the themes of redemption and despair. The performances, if you can call them that, are hauntingly real, showcasing their vulnerability. It's definitely distinct in how it approaches such a charged subject, steering clear of sensationalism.
