The Conman (1998) is an interesting blend of action and comedy that really sits in a unique space. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, but it kind of adds to the charm. The story kicks off when our protagonist accidentally takes out an assassin, which is such a wild premise that you can't help but get sucked in. When he emerges from prison, you can sense the tension brewing as the victim's brother is hot on his trail for revenge. It’s got a gritty atmosphere, but the humor often cuts through the heaviness. The practical effects, while not groundbreaking, are very much of the late '90s vibe. Performances are spirited, even if they don't always hit the mark. It's definitely a flick that has its own flavor.
