The Cost of Heaven is one of those films that creeps under your skin. Nacer Belkacem, a seemingly upstanding guy, is grappling with some heavy existential themes as he approaches his 50th birthday. The pacing is deliberately slow, which really lets the tension build, especially as the cracks in his perfect facade start to show. You feel the weight of his secrets and the toll they take on his relationships. The atmosphere is thick with a sense of impending doom, made all the more palpable by strong performances that ground the mystery. It's shot with a keen eye for detail, and the practical effects are minimal but effective, enhancing the realism of Nacer's unraveling world. Definitely a distinctive entry in the drama-thriller category.
