The Counselor is an intriguing piece from Ridley Scott, exploring the dark underbelly of drug trafficking. It’s got this palpable tension, almost suffocating at times. The dialogue is sharp, almost literary, which is a bit divisive—some love it, some find it pretentious. You can really feel the weight of the choices the characters make. Michael Fassbender gives a solid performance, but the real standout is Javier Bardem, who is uncomfortably charismatic. The visuals are striking, with a dreamlike quality that contrasts sharply with the harsh themes. It’s not a straight thriller; it meanders a bit, which may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Still, it leaves an impression that hangs around long after the credits roll.
