The Crush (1993) is an interesting blend of drama and thriller, directed by Alan Shapiro. You get this palpable tension throughout as you watch a young, obsessive teenager, played by Alicia Silverstone, fixate on a somewhat clueless writer, played by Cary Elwes. The pacing is deliberately slow at times, letting the atmosphere simmer, which adds to the unsettling vibe. The film explores themes of obsession and the darker sides of youthful infatuation. There are practical effects used sparingly, which lend a certain authenticity to some of the more shocking moments. Silverstone gives a standout performance—she's both charming and terrifying, embodying that duality in a way that's pretty distinctive to the film.
Great exploration of teenage obsession.Alicia Silverstone's breakout performance.Notable for its unsettling atmosphere.
