The Cuckoo is one of those films that finds beauty in the absurdity of war. Set in the fall of '44, you've got this Finnish sniper and a Soviet captain who, despite being on opposite sides, end up entangled in a quirky love triangle with a woman who speaks no Russian or Finnish. The performances are understated yet powerful, especially from the lead actress, who brings a palpable warmth to the stark landscape. The pacing meanders a bit, but it fits the tone perfectly—you're often lost in the characters' small moments rather than a grand narrative. The blend of comedy and drama feels organic, not forced. It’s a unique take on human connection amidst chaos, which is surprisingly refreshing.
