The Culpepper Cattle Co. is one of those Westerns that really digs into the grit of the cowboy life. You’ve got this kid, Ben Mockridge, caught up in his dreams and the harsh realities of the cattle drive. The pacing is kind of deliberate, almost meditative at times, letting you soak in the dust and sweat of the Old West. It doesn’t glamorize the lifestyle, instead showcasing the struggles and tough choices. The performances are solid, especially from the young actors who really bring that youthful ambition to life. And the cinematography—man, it captures that sprawling landscape perfectly. This film has a raw, honest feel to it; it’s an interesting take on what it really means to be a cowboy.
