The Curse (1987) is this curious blend of horror and sci-fi that really leans into the rural dread. Nathan Hayes, played with a kind of earnest desperation, is battling both a looming real estate deal and something far more sinister. The atmosphere is thick—there’s a palpable sense of decay and corruption both in the land and within the community. The pacing feels almost methodical, gradually building tension until you’re awkwardly squirming in your seat. The practical effects, especially the creature designs, deliver a certain rawness that CGI just can’t replicate. You might not walk away terrified, but the themes of faith, land ownership, and what we’re willing to sacrifice linger well after the credits roll. Definitely a unique watch for genre enthusiasts.
