The Dark Days of Demetrius is quite the grim journey. Dakota Ray, both director and lead, really dives into the psyche of his character, Demetrius—a serial killer who thrives on the attention of his live-streamed murders. The film has this raw, lo-fi aesthetic that feels almost DIY, which adds to the unsettling atmosphere. The pacing is intentionally slow at times, building tension that feels almost suffocating. There’s a heavy reliance on practical effects, and they hit hard without any gloss. It’s definitely a study in narcissism and the dark side of fame, wrapped in horror that’s as cerebral as it is visceral. It’s not a film for everyone, but if you appreciate the fringes of genre cinema, it’s got a unique voice.
