The Darkest Minds is an interesting take on the dystopian genre. You have this heavy atmosphere, like a world gone cold and cruel after the loss of so many children. The pacing sometimes drags, but it really nails that tension of being on the run. The superpowers the kids develop are intriguing, but the real story lies in their struggle for freedom and identity. The performances have a raw edge, especially from the lead, who captures that mix of vulnerability and strength. There are some decent practical effects sprinkled throughout, which is refreshing in a landscape saturated with CGI. It’s not your typical teen adventure; there’s a darker undercurrent that sets it apart from many of its peers.
