The Dog (2025) presents a gritty look into the lives of two lost souls. The drug dealer's character is hardened, but there's a vulnerability in his pursuit of Kadzo, which adds depth to their relationship. The pacing can be slow at times, but it mirrors the heavy atmosphere of their lives. There's a rawness in the performances that feels very authentic. You can sense the struggle of trying to rise above a tough environment. Practical effects are minimal but serve the emotional beats well, keeping the focus on the characters. It's one of those films that lingers, perhaps because it doesn't shy away from the darker aspects of love and desperation in a harsh world.
