The Door in the Floor is one of those films that really digs into grief and the way it can warp family dynamics. The atmosphere is thick with melancholy and the pacing feels like a slow burn, giving you time to really absorb the characters' pain. Jeff Bridges delivers a raw performance as Ted, a writer unraveling in the wake of loss, while Kim Basinger's portrayal of Marion is hauntingly distant. The way the film explores memory and the past, especially with Eddie's character resembling one of their deceased sons, is unsettling yet profoundly moving. It’s a unique blend of drama that invites reflection on how we cope with tragedy. The practical effects and cinematography add to that eerie, dreamlike quality, which lingers long after the credits roll.
