The Electric Horseman, directed by Sydney Pollack, is a fascinating blend of comedy, drama, and a touch of romance that captures the absurdity of showbiz. You've got this former rodeo champion, played by Robert Redford, who’s fallen from grace, now promoting a breakfast cereal under the gaudy lights of Vegas. The pacing has this nice ebb and flow, especially when he realizes the horse he's riding is being drugged—there’s this palpable tension that builds. Jane Fonda adds a nice counterbalance to Redford's character as they navigate their own personal dilemmas. The desert setting really enhances the themes of freedom and rebellion. And the practical effects with the horse are surprisingly well executed for the time.
