The Eternal Life of Alexander Christoforov is a curious blend of adventure and comedy that dives into the life of a washed-up actor. Alec, once a star in Soviet times, finds himself in this almost tragicomic rut, performing in a laughably underwhelming historical show. You can really feel the weight of his misanthropy and loneliness; it’s almost palpable. The pacing meanders a bit, reflecting Alec's own stagnation, but it feels intentional, adding to the charm. There are moments where the humor hits just right, thanks in part to the quirky performances. Visually, it’s got this gritty realism that enhances the overall atmosphere and reinforces themes of alienation and the search for meaning in the mundane. Overall, it’s distinctive in its treatment of failure and redemption, a nice little gem.
