The Extreme Team is a curious blend of action and early 2000s extreme sports culture. Directed by Leslie Libman, it features a ragtag team of Gen X athletes who are as likely to pull off a sick trick as they are to take on bad guys. The pacing feels a bit frenetic at times, with quick cuts that try to match the energy of the stunts, but it gives the whole thing an almost chaotic charm. The performances are a mixed bag—some of the actors really lean into their roles, while others feel a bit wooden. The practical effects, especially during the stunts, stand out, which is refreshing compared to today's reliance on CGI. Not a classic by any means, but it has its moments.
Released on DVD in 2004, later on Blu-ray in 2020.Filmed on location in New Zealand, showcasing stunning landscapes.Features a mix of practical stunts and early 2000s action choreography.Includes performances by lesser-known actors from the era's extreme sports scene.
