The First After God dives into a tense slice of WWII, capturing the raw emotions of love and loyalty against a backdrop of war. Set in 1944, it weaves the story of Captain Marinesku, portrayed against the oppressive weight of KGB oversight. You really feel the atmosphere of dread and urgency, especially in the underwater sequences. The performances, particularly the chemistry between Tanka and Aleksandr, bring a weight that’s compelling without being overdone. The pacing can feel a bit uneven at times, but it adds to that chaotic war vibe. Practical effects add a gritty realism to the submarine battles, grounding the film in its historical context, which is always a nice touch. Not what I’d call mainstream, but it definitely has its unique charm.
True story basis offers depth.Strong emotional core.Interesting KGB angle on military life.
