So, 'The First Step' is an interesting documentary that really dives into the complexities of political and racial divides. Van Jones, the central figure, is trying to play this role of a bridge builder during the tense times of the Trump administration. The pacing feels intentionally drawn out at times, which I think adds to the atmosphere of isolation and tension that permeates the film. There’s a rawness to his journey that’s compelling, and it captures a lot of the frustration and hope that people felt during that era. While the director remains unknown, the candidness and vulnerability in Jones's performance make it distinctive. It’s more about the landscape of dialogue than flashy effects, yet it leaves a mark.
