So, The Fly from '85, directed by David Cronenberg, really leans into the body horror genre. I mean, the practical effects are just something else – the transformation scenes are visceral, and the makeup work really elevates the whole thing. Jeff Goldblum as Seth Brundle is fantastic; he nails that mix of charm and desperation as he spirals down this dark path. It’s more than just a horror flick; it touches on themes of isolation and the human condition. The pacing is interesting too, building tension as Seth's mind and body deteriorate. The atmosphere is thick with dread, and you can’t help but feel for the guy, even as he becomes less and less human. It’s a unique blend of sci-fi and horror that sticks with you.
A great example of practical effects done right.Focus on themes of transformation and loss.Interesting character arc from charm to horror.
