You can practically feel the weight of family loyalty and the moral dilemmas that Michael faces. Brando’s performance as Vito is endlessly compelling, with his subtle gestures and that low, gravelly voice. The practical effects, especially in the infamous horse head scene, still hold up well today. The film's score by Nino Rota is haunting, embedding itself in your mind long after the credits roll. There's a certain authenticity in the way it portrays both the glamour and the grim realities of organized crime.
