The Graves (2010) is a curious blend of adventure and horror that leans into a distinctly eerie atmosphere. It follows these two sisters who find themselves in this desolate mining town, and what starts as a simple visit quickly morphs into a tense struggle against both human threats and supernatural elements. The pacing has this nice, creeping tension, building dread with each scene. The practical effects are surprisingly effective for a low-budget film, adding a tangible feel to the scares. And while the director remains unknown, the performances manage to sell the sisters' bond, making the stakes feel personal and real. There’s a certain charm in its imperfections, which makes it distinctive in the genre.
