The Great War is quite an intriguing documentary, piecing together the human experience of WWI through personal letters and diaries—stuff you don't usually get in the big history narratives. It’s not just about the battles or leaders but dives into the lives of those often overlooked: nurses, aviators, and the doughboys themselves. The tone is reflective, sometimes somber, and manages to pull you into that world without getting too heavy-handed. The pacing feels right, ebbing and flowing as it shifts from one personal story to another. The use of real voices from the time adds a layer of authenticity that’s quite striking. It's a unique take, for sure, definitely stands out from the flood of war documentaries on the shelf.
