The Guyver is a neat blend of action and sci-fi, with a distinctive low-budget charm. Steve Wang directs with an eye for practical effects that, while not always polished, have a certain grit that adds to the film's appeal. You can really feel the 90s aesthetic in the creature designs and the transformation scenes. The pacing is pretty brisk, which keeps the energy up, but it does have its slower moments that lend a bit of depth to Sean Barker’s character. The performances vary, but there's a unique enthusiasm, especially from the supporting cast. There's something oddly captivating about the way it embraces its B-movie roots, which I find more enjoyable than a lot of the slicker stuff from the same era.
