The Handbook is an interesting blend of horror and thriller, diving into some pretty unsettling themes of faith and morality. It follows two Latter-day Saint missionaries who, in their earnestness, confront a wicked lady with a Book of Mormon. The atmosphere is thick with tension, and there's this almost claustrophobic feeling as they navigate her malevolent presence. The pacing takes its time, building dread rather than rushing into scares. The practical effects, while not over-the-top, add a nice layer of realism to the horror, which is always a plus. The performances have a raw quality, especially from the missionaries, making their predicament feel all the more urgent. Definitely not your typical horror fare, which makes it stand out in a crowded genre.
