The Last Horseman is a somewhat standard Western that showcases Russell Hayden as Lucky, a character who carries over his Hopalong Cassidy days into this Columbia feature. Directed by William Berke, it has that classic Western feel – open landscapes, saloons, and the usual confrontations. The pacing is relaxed, giving you that familiar, easy-going vibe of 1940s Westerns, though it doesn't quite break any new ground. The performances are decent, with Hayden doing his best to bring charm to what feels like a routine plot. It's not high art, but the practical effects of the horse chases and shootouts have a certain sincerity. It’s a nice little piece to consider if you’re into the era’s Westerns, but don’t expect anything groundbreaking here.
