The Last House in the Woods (2006) is an Italian horror flick that plays on that uneasy tension of trust and betrayal. It kicks off with this raw, gritty tone, right from the harrowing escape of our lead from a group of bullies. The remote setting of the couple's house is chilling, almost too quiet, which really ramps up the suspense. The pacing has this slow burn that makes the eventual reveals hit harder. Practical effects are used effectively here, giving it a more visceral feel compared to all the CGI-heavy stuff out there. It's a bit rough around the edges, but that adds to its charm, I think. The performances, especially from the woman and the couple, really draw you into that unsettling atmosphere, making it stick in your mind.
