The Last Man (2018) is an interesting dive into the psyche of a war veteran, Tov Matheson, who becomes increasingly paranoid about an impending apocalypse. The film doesn’t shy away from the heavy themes of PTSD and isolation, presenting a raw atmosphere that feels claustrophobic at times. Vila's direction leans on practical effects and minimalistic set designs, which really ground the story in a gritty realism. The pacing is deliberately slow, allowing the tension to build as Tov's relationship with a dubious Messiah complicates his already fractured life. Performances are solid, especially from the lead, who brings a haunting quality to the character’s descent into obsession. It’s distinctive in how it blends action with psychological depth without resorting to typical genre tropes.
