So, The Last Ride. It's this understated gem that captures a raw slice of Hank Williams' life. The film breathes a certain nostalgia, all set against the hauntingly beautiful backdrop of the Appalachian landscape. You can really feel the weight of Williams' fading fame and personal demons through the performances—very nuanced. The pacing, while slow at times, really lets you soak in the atmosphere and his interactions with the kid driving him. The music is, of course, a huge part of it; it just lingers in the air. It's not flashy, but there's a genuine heart to it, reflecting the struggles of both the man and his era. Definitely has that indie feel as well.
